State Responsibility and the Yazidi Genocide, Report Launch

On July 6th 2022, the APPG for the Prevention of Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity, and the APPG for the Yazidi will co-sponsor a High-Level Panel in Parliament, convened by the Yazidi Justice Committee. The panel will launch a major international report advancing the issue of state responsibility for the Yazidi genocide.

Women and Youth in Preventing Violence and Promoting Peace

A series of sessions, as part of the Preventing Violence, Promoting Freedom of Belief, Fringe Conference on Gender and Youth (fringe event to the World Freedom of Belief or Religion Ministerial (5-6 July).

The sessions will include discussions of legal frameworks for preventing violence and promoting peace, and panel discussions and briefings from representatives from Central African Republic, Rwanda, Iraq, Israel and Bosnia-Herzegovina on the place of women and young people in peace-building and prevention.

The intensification of hate speech, violence, and the threat of violence against ethnic and religious minorities intensified over recent weeks to the degree that we now consider it high risk. This joint meeting with the All Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Belief or Religion discussed how we can work to support minorities in India, and prevent further violence.

Atrocity Prevention post-Brexit

As the government deals with Brexit, atrocity prevention is at risk of being side-lined. This meeting discussed ways to keep atrocity prevention in focus in the uncertain political environment, including reflections on lessons from the Obama Atrocity Prevention Board, and opportunities for a UK Atrocity Prevention Centre.
